Furthermore there was nothing stopping people from training models locally.
\n
Adding two weeks does allow people to come up with more complex modeling since their struggles with debugging will matter less with the postponed deadline, but at the end of the day this is a competition, and I think changing the rules on the fly due to a trivial matter like this sets a negative precedent.
",

But note that this extension doesn't give you less time than others, especially since you managed to start earlier than most. It only gives others more time to catch up. If you have scheduled time to invest by the original deadline and have already given it your best by then, two more weeks should not make a lot of difference for you. For people who have limited time available in June or July, these two weeks can make all the difference between giving up or having a go after all.
\n
Note that Kaggle is mostly a learning platform and the large majority of people is here to learn, not to have a shot at the prizes. What we saw over the first few weeks was very few participants and only a handful of people actually competing. Now that all the issues have been cleared out and some of us have spent a lot of effort in clarifying (for everyone) why the issues are occurring and how to solve them, I see the participant numbers and successful submissions are rising. For my part, I feel this makes the competition much more interesting.
",

In my opinion, it's unlikely that such high-quality and large-scale competitions with huge prize pools would be conducted solely for learners, rather than for finding the best solutions to a specific problem. Much appreciated as it would give an equal opportunity to each one of us to come up with the best possible solution. It's sad to see people complaining over it, it's so crucial to remember that the purpose of the competition is the primary focus. Regardless of individual motivations, whether it's for learning, personal growth, or competing for the prize, our collective aim should be to contribute the most optimal solutions that can truly make a positive impact for the deaf community which these 2 weeks would give us! :)
",

              "content": "
Firstly, I was satisfied with Sohier's response. What's done is done, and I will accept that. But it's important for me that my feedback will be considered in the future.
\n
But if you want to discuss specific aspects, that's fine:
\n
You may have participated in competitions before, and you know that the last 2-3 weeks are very important as this is the best time for forming teams and combining solutions. This requires a lot of work and a great deal of time. Therefore, the loss of this part of the competition may affect the final result.
\n
But I am also glad that all issues with submissions have been resolved. I don't think this contradicts my disappointment about the deadline extension.
\n
\n
Note that Kaggle is mostly a learning platform and the large majority of people is here to learn, not to have a shot at the prizes.
\n
\n
Kaggle is undeniably a wonderful place for learners, but this doesn't means that \"prize shooters\" not matters. In my opinion, it's unlikely that such high-quality and large-scale competitions with huge prize pools would be conducted solely for learners, rather than for finding the best solutions to a specific problem. These solutions are typically provided by participants who invest a lot of effort and time and also their GPU resources and accumulated experience. In my view, this is equivalent to racing for the prizes.
",

Much appreciated as it would give an equal opportunity to each one of us to come up with the best possible solution. It's sad to see people complaining over it, it's so crucial to remember that the purpose of the competition is the primary focus. Regardless of individual motivations, whether it's for learning, personal growth, or competing for the prize, our collective aim should be to contribute the most optimal solutions that can truly make a positive impact for the deaf community which these 2 weeks would give us! :)
",

The new deadline is August 24th. Our hope is that, given how far we still are from the close of the competition, this will allow more people to compete successfully without being too disruptive of any existing plans. ",

Now it seems I've either lost two weeks of the competition or my vacation. 😑\n\nI also couldn't make any submissions at the start of the competition, but that didn't prevent me from training my models locally.\n\nI hope this will help those who asked for it to come up with awesome solutions.",
